A Short Article About Chinua Achebe

In 1958 he published a book that became very popular around the world being translated into more than fifty languages. The book sold about 15 million copies while being used to teach in various schools and colleges around the world.


In 1966 he published another book that predicted future events. In the book, the author explained about the overthrow of a leader who gave him the name 'Chifu Nanga', an event that actually happened because just a few days after the book was released in his country, a revolution took place that led to the death of the country's prime minister, Mr. Abubakar Balewa. The event made the author to be called a 'prophet' due to writing things that came to reflect the reality in the days that followed.


He was a great writer, respected inside and outside the borders of his country, teaching in various universities in Nigeria and the United States. Many called him the 'Father of African Literature' ie the father of African literature.


In 1990 a sad event happened to him. While in Lagos, Nigeria, he had a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. So from that day his whole life ended up in a wheelchair as you can see in the picture. Despite being disabled, he continued to teach in various universities in the United States until his death in 2013.


His name is Chinua Achebe, a legend of literature, the author of more than 100 books, including the famous novel 'Things Fall Apart (1958) and 'A man of the People (1966).
